THE PRICE OF FAIRNESS

Cinemavixion Review

In 'The Price of Fairness,' director Alex Gabbay crafts a compelling documentary that delves into the complex nature of societal inequality. The film bravely confronts why pervasive injustices are often accepted, initiating its inquiry with intriguing social experiments in Norway. These studies suggest a disquieting human tendency to uphold unequal systems. The narrative then broadens, examining fairness through the lens of capuchin monkeys in Atlanta, thanks to the work of behavioral scientist Sarah Bronson, who challenges the notion of inherent selfishness and posits cooperation as a fundamental human driver. Through visits to Costa Rica, Iceland, and the United States—including a poignant look at Ferguson, Missouri—the documentary masterfully weaves together economic, political, racial, and gender inequalities. It serves as a vital, thought-provoking exploration of our collective understanding of fairness and the arduous path toward systemic change.
