THE PACEMAKERS

Cinemavixion Review

In 'The Pacemakers,' director Selah Hennessy offers a profoundly moving and surprisingly spirited look at the human capacity to defy age and expectation. The documentary chronicles the extraordinary journey of a cohort of nonagenarians who refuse to let their advanced years, or significant health challenges like dementia and lung disease, deter them from pursuing athletic excellence. These spirited individuals, driven by an unyielding competitive fire, set their sights on world championships in Australia and South Korea. Hennessy's intimate lens captures not just the rigorous training and the emotional highs and lows of competition, but also the deep bonds forged among these remarkable sportsmen. It's a testament to the idea that age is merely a number, and that the pursuit of passion and dreams knows no chronological limit, offering an inspiring narrative that champions the indomitable spirit.
