THE OUTSIDE CIRCLE: A MOVIE OF THE MODERN WEST

Cinemavixion Review

Craig Rullman's "The Outside Circle: A Movie of the Modern West" is a poignant documentary that delves into the lives of individuals striving to maintain their heritage and traditions in the vast, often unforgiving landscapes of the American West. Through the compelling narratives of Len Babb, a seasoned buckaroo and artist, the resilient Murphy family of Oregon ranchers, and Victoria Jackson, a gifted Paiute-Shoshone rodeo champion, the film explores the enduring spirit of those who reside "on The Outside Circle." These are individuals who, far from the nation's cultural and economic hubs, find strength in faith, family, friendship, and community. Set against the backdrop of breathtaking, remote scenery, the film is a testament to ardent optimism in the face of contemporary challenges, celebrating the values that have sustained these communities against all odds. Clocking in at 117 minutes, this documentary offers a profound look at resilience and the deep connection to land and legacy in a rapidly changing world.
