THE OUTDOORSMAN

Cinemavixion Review

"The Outdoorsman" (2017) presents a charming if somewhat predictable romantic comedy centered on the aspirations of its protagonist, Jason. Played with earnest conviction, Jason's sudden decision to forsake civilization for a year in the wilderness, despite a glaring lack of experience, sets the stage for a fish-out-of-water narrative. The film is further elevated by the presence of Sasheer Zamata as Mona, a corporate professional grappling with the pressures of modern life. Their unlikely romance blossoms amidst Jason's preparations, creating a compelling conflict between personal dreams and burgeoning love. Directed by David Haskell and featuring a supporting cast including Irene Choi, the film navigates themes of self-discovery and commitment with a light touch. While not a critical darling, "The Outdoorsman" offers a pleasant viewing experience, particularly for those who enjoy character-driven romantic comedies with a touch of the great outdoors.
