THE NAIL: THE STORY OF JOEY NARDONE

Cinemavixion Review

James Quattrochi's 2009 drama, "The Nail: The Story of Joey Nardone," offers a poignant look at redemption and second chances, anchored by a compelling performance from Tony Danza. The film follows Joey Nardone, a former professional boxer grappling with life after an eight-year prison sentence for manslaughter. Nardone's return to his old haunts in Philadelphia is met with the unsettling realization that he is a stranger in his own neighborhood. The narrative gains emotional depth as Joey encounters a troubled teenager, Jesus, who becomes an unlikely protégé. Their burgeoning relationship, set against the backdrop of boxing gyms and city streets, explores themes of forgiveness, hope, and the profound impact of finding purpose. Despite its modest release, the film, featuring strong supporting turns from William Forsythe and Leo Rossi, resonates as a heartfelt exploration of finding meaning and fighting for what truly matters.
