THE MOST DANGEROUS RESCUE IN EVEREST HISTORY

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary chronicles the extraordinary journey of Gurman, a Sherpa guide deeply affected by the perils of high-altitude work in the Himalayas, particularly the loss of his brother. Driven by a desire to secure a safer future for his family, Gurman embarks on an ambitious and unconventional plan: to introduce the first horse into his steep valley, intending to offer rides to tourists. The film captures Gurman's emotional odyssey, from seeking the spiritual approval of the village Lama to undertaking a journey to Kathmandu to secure a substantial loan, and finally, bringing his mare, Karma, back to their home. The challenges are immediate and severe, as Karma struggles with the altitude, jeopardizing Gurman's financial stability. However, their most critical trial arrives when they are summoned to the treacherous Everest Base Camp to rescue a fellow Sherpa suffering from snow blindness. This event underscores the profound impact a single horse can have on saving lives amidst the imposing grandeur of the world's highest peak. The narrative powerfully illustrates how one family's audacious dream can transform an entire community and forge a new legacy in the Himalayas.
