THE MEDIEVAL EMPEROR WHO EXPERIMENTED ON HUMANS FOR FUN

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the enigmatic figure of Friedrich II, a Holy Roman Emperor whose reign was marked by an unusual blend of intellectual pursuit and profound cruelty. The narrative highlights his controversial experiments, aimed at uncovering fundamental truths about humanity, such as the innate language of infants and the nature of the soul. While these endeavors reveal a mind driven by insatiable curiosity, they also underscore a chilling detachment from human suffering, exemplified by the tragic fates of the infants involved. The film paints a portrait of a ruler who presided over a unique court, a melting pot of cultures and disciplines, featuring scholars, poets, and exotic animals, all under the shadow of his formidable and often fearsome reputation. Friedrich II emerges not just as a historical figure, but as a complex, almost mythical character, whose legacy is as debated as his methods.
