THE MANSON'S FAMILY

Cinemavixion Review

Jim Van Bebber's 'The Manson's Family' plunges viewers into a disturbing descent, employing the guise of super 8 home movies to capture the chilling aura of Charles Manson's followers. This unique approach blurs the lines between documentary and dramatization, offering a raw, unsettling glimpse into the lives that coalesced around Spahn Ranch. The film meticulously charts the group's trajectory, from their early days steeped in music and communal living to the horrific acts that would forever stain their legacy. Van Bebber crafts an experience that is both ethnographic and nightmarish, forcing an uncomfortable intimacy with the individuals caught in Manson's orbit. It's a challenging, yet compelling, exploration of fanaticism and the darkness that can fester within the fringes of society.
