THE MAN WHO INSPIRED PICASSO: WHO WAS THE REAL CÉZANNE? | GREAT ARTISTS IMPRESSIONISTS

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the life and work of Paul Cézanne, exploring his complex relationship with Impressionism and his singular artistic vision. While associated with the Impressionist movement, Cézanne harbored a distinct ambition: to imbue his art with a 'solid and durable' quality, akin to the masterpieces housed in museums. His revolutionary approach, characterized by a unique perspective on form and space, was only fully recognized by the Parisian avant-garde in the 1890s. Despite this late acclaim, Cézanne's profound influence on the development of 20th-century art, particularly on giants like Picasso, is undeniable. The film illuminates how Cézanne's persistent pursuit of artistic innovation eventually led his work to the 'promised land' of art historical significance, making him a pivotal figure bridging the 19th and 20th centuries.
