THE LIVING GHOST

Cinemavixion Review

William Beaudine's "The Living Ghost" from 1942 offers a curious blend of detective noir and nascent horror elements. The film follows the determined Nick Trayne, a retired detective tasked with locating a vanished banker, only to find the man returned in a disturbingly zombified state. This premise sets the stage for a compelling mystery, as Trayne must unravel the sinister plot behind the banker's affliction. James Dunn, as the sharp-witted Trayne, anchors the narrative with a performance that navigates the film's tonal shifts with aplomb. While perhaps not a mainstream horror classic, "The Living Ghost" is a fascinating artifact of its era, showcasing an intriguing concept and a solid mystery that will appeal to fans of pre-code B-movies and early psychological thrillers.
