THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS

Cinemavixion Review

Roger Corman's "The Little Shop of Horrors" from 1960 stands as a deliciously dark B-movie gem, a cult classic that predates its more famous musical counterpart. Filmed in a remarkably swift two days, this black-and-white horror-comedy offers a delightfully macabre tale of Seymour Krelborn, a meek floral assistant who stumbles upon a unique plant with an insatiable appetite for human blood. Jonathan Haze delivers a memorable performance as the hapless Seymour, whose good intentions quickly spiral into a desperate cycle of murder to feed his increasingly monstrous "Audrey Jr." The film masterfully blends genuine suspense with absurdist humor, a testament to Corman's directorial prowess and Charles B. Griffith's sharp screenplay. While its production values are modest, its inventive premise and darkly comedic tone have cemented its place in cinematic history, earning an impressive 88% on Rotten Tomatoes and a solid 6.2/10 on IMDb. It's a must-watch for fans of early B-movies and a testament to the enduring power of low-budget, high-concept filmmaking.
