THE LIFE OF PAUL GAUGUIN: FROM FRAUGHT FRIENDSHIPS TO FRENCH POLYNESIA

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the tumultuous life of Paul Gauguin, a painter whose existence mirrored his art in its vibrant, often chaotic, exploration. Born in 1848, Gauguin famously abandoned a conventional life as a stockbroker for the unpredictable world of art, a decision that irrevocably altered his personal relationships and led him on a global quest for inspiration. The narrative traces his artistic journey, highlighting significant periods such as his time in Martinique with fellow artist Charles Laval and his intense, albeit brief, collaboration with Vincent van Gogh in Arles. Gauguin's relentless pursuit of an elusive muse, often found in the exotic landscapes of French Polynesia, is central to understanding his legacy as a post-Impressionist master who defied societal norms in his search for authentic expression.
