THE LAWLESS

Cinemavixion Review

Joseph Losey's 1950 film 'The Lawless' offers a compelling look at racial injustice and the courage required to confront it. Set in a seemingly tranquil town, the narrative centers on a former big-city editor who finds himself drawn into a fight for justice on behalf of a young Latino farmworker. The film skillfully navigates themes of prejudice and civic responsibility, with a particularly strong performance from Macdonald Carey as the principled editor. Despite its age, 'The Lawless' remains a potent examination of standing up for what's right, even when facing significant social pressure. It's a noteworthy entry in the film noir genre, deserving of wider recognition for its timely message and solid direction.
