THE KRAYS: MAD AXEMAN

Cinemavixion Review

William Kerley's 'The Krays: Mad Axeman' plunges viewers into the tense, claustrophobic atmosphere of a 1966 East London flat. The film chronicles the audacious prison break of Frank Mitchell, orchestrated by the infamous Kray twins, and his subsequent ten-day hiding. Diarmaid Murtagh compellingly portrays Mitchell, a man adrift and under the watchful eyes of his minder, while Morgan Watkins and Elen Rhys bring a palpable sense of unease to their roles as his reluctant companions. Kerley masterfully crafts a narrative that explores the psychological toll of confinement and the precariousness of freedom, painting a gritty portrait of a criminal underworld teetering on the edge of discovery. The film excels in its depiction of simmering tension and the claustrophobic environment, making for a compelling character study within a crime drama framework.
