THE KRAYS' MAD AXEMAN

Cinemavixion Review

William Kerley's 'The Krays' Mad Axeman' delves into the largely untold story of Frank Mitchell, a figure of folklore intertwined with the infamous Kray twins. Based on Gill Adams' award-winning play, the film reconstructs the events surrounding Mitchell's daring escape from Dartmoor prison just before Christmas in 1966, orchestrated by the Krays. As a national manhunt unfolds, Mitchell, dubbed 'The Mad Axeman,' finds himself in hiding, awaiting parliamentary debate on his parole and grappling with his confinement alongside a minder and hostess. The narrative masterfully blends suspense and tension with an intimate exploration of the relationships forged under duress, highlighting the profound impact individuals have on one another. This cinematic endeavor offers a unique perspective on a notorious chapter of London's criminal history, focusing on the human drama behind the headlines.
