THE JOURNEY IS THE DESTINATION

Cinemavixion Review

Bronwen Hughes's 2016 biographical drama, "The Journey Is the Destination," offers a poignant look at the life of Dan Eldon, a remarkable artist, activist, and photojournalist. The film meticulously traces Eldon's journey from his formative years in Kenya through his intrepid travels across a continent grappling with conflict and famine. His vibrant journals, a fusion of photography, art, and found materials, serve as the narrative's visual core, revealing a young man deeply committed to capturing both the beauty and the harsh realities of the world around him. Eldon's path culminates in Somalia, where, as a war correspondent for Reuters, he courageously documented a devastating famine and ensuing conflict. The film, starring Ben Schnetzer as Eldon, alongside Kelly Macdonald and Sam Hazeldine, is a testament to a life lived with passion and purpose, leaving an indelible legacy that continues to inspire.
