Cinemavixion Review

Robert D. Webb's 1967 Western, "The Jackals," offers a familiar tale set against the stark beauty of 19th-century South Africa. The film follows a band of ruthless robbers, led by the charismatic but conflicted Robert Gunner, who set their sights on a wealthy gold miner and his innocent granddaughter, portrayed by Diana Ivarson. The narrative takes a predictable turn when Gunner finds himself ensnared by the granddaughter's charm, leading to a moral quandary that challenges his criminal enterprise. Vincent Price delivers a performance befitting his stature as the unsuspecting miner, adding a layer of gravitas to the proceedings. While the plot treads well-worn ground, the film's visual appeal and the actors' commitment largely compensate for its lack of originality. "The Jackals" is a solid, if unremarkable, addition to the Western genre, notable for its South African setting and a compelling central performance from its lead.
