THE INCOHERENTS

Cinemavixion Review

Jared Barel's 2019 film, 'The Incoherents,' offers a poignant, albeit sometimes uneven, exploration of mid-life ennui through the lens of a reunited 90s indie rock band. Starring Annette O'Toole, Margaret Anne Florence, and Amy Carlson, the movie delves into the lives of four individuals grappling with various forms of malaise, finding solace and perhaps a second chance in their shared musical past. While the film garnered 4 wins and 5 nominations, its reception, as reflected in an IMDb rating of 4.9/10, suggests a mixed audience response. 'The Incoherents' aims to resonate with those who feel stuck in a rut, using the backdrop of nostalgic rock music to examine themes of regret, reconciliation, and the enduring power of creative expression. It's a film that, despite its imperfections, might strike a chord with anyone who has ever looked back at their younger selves with a mix of longing and wistfulness.
