THE IDOL

Cinemavixion Review

Norman England's 'The iDol' presents a fascinating, albeit brief, exploration of desire and its consequences. Released in 2006, this Japanese fantasy film, starring Takako Fuji, Tomoo Haraguchi, and Erina Hayase, delves into the life of Ken, a man whose adolescent dreams are unexpectedly fulfilled by a mysterious alien toy. The narrative artfully contrasts the benevolent gifts bestowed by the 'iDol' with a darker undercurrent, suggesting that such rapid ascensions may come at a steep price. The film's compact runtime belies a thoughtful commentary on materialism and the nature of happiness. With an impressive 8.1 rating on IMDb, 'The iDol' is a curious gem that rewards viewers with its unique premise and intriguing thematic depth, offering a thought-provoking, if slightly unsettling, cinematic experience.
