Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the rich and storied history of the House of Lippe, a noble German dynasty whose influence stretches back centuries. Hereditary Prince Stephan Lippe, alongside journalist Julia Melchior, guides viewers through the Detmold Residence Castle, a testament to the family's enduring legacy. The narrative unfolds over 800 years, tracing the lineage from lords and counts to princes and federal princes. A particularly fascinating segment explores the Falkenburg, the family's 12th-century ancestral seat, brought to life through recent archaeological excavations that have yielded sensational finds. The program also offers a glimpse into contemporary life, with Prince Armin and Princess Traute, the current heads of the House, sharing personal anecdotes about their family's tumultuous past, including the period leading up to the end of the monarchy in 1918. The iconic Lippe Rose, the family's heraldic symbol, continues to be a prominent emblem, even adorning the state flag of North Rhine-Westphalia today, underscoring the deep historical connection between the dynasty and the region.
