THE HOUSE ELF

Cinemavixion Review

Evgeniy Bedarev's "The House Elf" (2019) offers a whimsical dive into Russian folklore, presenting a charming tale of a single mother who discovers her new Moscow flat is already occupied by a rather territorial home elf, or 'Domovoy'. This mythical creature, fiercely protective of his domain, becomes an unlikely ally when a witch, hired by an estate agent, attempts to seize the property for her own nefarious purposes, especially after learning of a hidden treasure. The film cleverly blends domestic challenges with fantastical elements, as the new inhabitants must forge an alliance with the ancient spirit to safeguard their home. While the local data provides a concise synopsis, the external data fleshes out the narrative with the added intrigue of a witch and a treasure hunt, enriching the understanding of the film's comedic and familial fantasy appeal. It's a delightful exploration of the unseen guardians of our homes, wrapped in a story that champions unlikely friendships and the magic found in everyday life.
