THE HISTORY AND BEAUTY OF NYMANS GARDEN

Cinemavixion Review

Nymans Garden, a creation of Ludwig Messel, stands as a testament to horticultural vision, established upon the Messel family's arrival in Britain in 1870. Despite prevailing anti-semitic and anti-German sentiments of the era, Ludwig Messel forged a successful career in stockbroking, which provided the means to realize his dream of the quintessential English garden at Nymans. This renowned garden is celebrated for its collection of rare plants and its striking theatrical herbaceous border, a design clearly influenced by the innovative ideas of William Robinson. The narrative of Nymans is not just about flora, but also about overcoming adversity and embedding a legacy of beauty and botanical diversity within the British landscape.
