THE HEAD: HORROR EXPERIMENT

Cinemavixion Review

Victor Trivas's 1959 film, "THE HEAD: HORROR EXPERIMENT," plunges into the ethically murky waters of mad science. The narrative centers on a chilling experiment involving a serum designed to sustain a dog's severed head, a testament to the era's fascination with body horror and scientific hubris. When the scientist meets an untimely end, his deranged assistant takes the reins, extending the macabre practice to the doctor himself. The assistant's subsequent obsession with grafting the living head onto a new body for his hunchbacked nurse creates a disturbing tableau of ambition and grotesque transformation. While the film's premise is undeniably unsettling, its execution in 1959 likely reflects the B-movie sensibilities of the time, offering a potent, if perhaps campy, exploration of humanity's darkest scientific impulses.
