THE GUN AND THE PULPIT

Cinemavixion Review

Daniel Petrie's 1974 Western, "The Gun and the Pulpit," offers a compelling narrative twist on the familiar frontier tale. Starring Marjoe Gortner as a fugitive gunslinger, the film sees him adopt the guise of a traveling preacher after stumbling upon the minister's murdered body. This unexpected role reversal allows Gortner's character to find a measure of redemption, bringing a semblance of order to a town plagued by a ruthless strongman's gang. The supporting cast, including David Huddleston, Slim Pickens, Geoffrey Lewis, Estelle Parsons, and Pamela Sue Martin, lend considerable weight to this story of mistaken identity and moral ambiguity in the Wild West. While not a major critical or commercial hit, "The Gun and the Pulpit" remains an engaging exploration of how circumstances can forge unlikely heroes and challenge conventional notions of good and evil on the unforgiving frontier.
