THE GREAT JESSE JAMES RAID

Cinemavixion Review

Reginald LeBorg's 1954 Western, "The Great Jesse James Raid," plunges into the familiar territory of outlaw betrayal. The narrative centers on Jesse James, portrayed by Willard Parker, as he succumbs to his old habits, orchestrating a scheme to plunder a Colorado gold mine. However, the fragile alliance among the thieves—including Jim Bannon, Tom Neal, and Wallace Ford—quickly disintegrates, leading to internal conflict and bloodshed. The film features a notable appearance by the cult actress Barbara Payton, who also contributes a musical number as Bannon's love interest. While the plot adheres to classic Western tropes of greed and treachery, the performances and the cult appeal of its cast, particularly Payton, offer moments of interest for fans of the genre.
