THE GATEHOUSE

Cinemavixion Review

Martin Gooch's 'The Gatehouse' offers a compelling dive into childhood imagination and ancient folklore. Set against the evocative backdrop of a forest's edge, the film centers on young Eternity, whose innocent pursuit of buried treasures unearths a perilous secret. Scarlett Rayner delivers a captivating performance as Eternity, anchoring the narrative with a blend of youthful curiosity and burgeoning bravery. The film skillfully navigates the boundary between fantasy and horror, as an encroaching, ancient force from a forgotten world demands restitution for its disturbed slumber. With its atmospheric direction and a narrative that taps into primal fears, 'The Gatehouse' is a surprisingly potent dark fairy tale that resonates long after the credits roll, exploring the consequences of disturbing the natural and supernatural worlds.
