THE FREEDOM TRAILS

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary series, "WWII's Great Escapes: The Freedom Trails," masterfully recounts harrowing journeys of escape from Nazi-occupied France. Fronted by former marine Monty Halls, the series revisits the perilous routes through the Pyrenees, a path fraught with the dangers of German soldiers, Vichy police, and the unforgiving mountains themselves. Halls' personal trek, mirroring those of individuals like Bob Frost who made the treacherous crossing at just 19, brings a visceral immediacy to the historical accounts. The narrative is enriched by the remarkable stories of bravery and defiance from local people who risked everything, utilizing their intimate knowledge of the terrain to guide thousands to safety. With an impressive IMDb rating of 8.1, this series is a poignant tribute to the courage of escapees and the quiet heroism of those who aided them, offering a compelling look into a critical chapter of World War II history.
