THE FOUNDERS

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary chronicles the inspiring journey of thirteen amateur women golfers in 1950 who defied societal norms and financial hurdles to establish the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA). The film meticulously details their struggles and triumphs, culminating in the creation of a professional sports organization that continues to thrive today. Featuring a blend of rare archival footage, evocative historical reenactments, and insightful interviews with contemporary golf stars and the four surviving founders—Marilynn Smith, Shirley Spork, Louise Suggs, and Marlene Bauer Vossler—'The Founders' offers a compelling look at a pivotal moment in sports history. The film's merit is underscored by its multiple festival awards, including Best Feature Film, and its script penned by Emmy Award winner Charlene Fisk, who also co-directed alongside Carrie Schrader. It's a testament to perseverance, ambition, and the enduring legacy of these pioneering women.
