THE FORGOTTEN KINGDOM: DISCOVERING THE NORSE EMPIRE IN BRITAIN

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary embarks on a fascinating archaeological journey, challenging preconceived notions of Britain's Viking era. The narrative skillfully weaves together ongoing excavations across the country, from the windswept Isle of Harris to the historically rich city of York. It presents compelling evidence that Viking influence extended far beyond mere raiding, highlighting their capabilities as sophisticated urban planners and astute traders. The discovery of a 12th-century Norse chess set, a significant treasure hoard, and intricate bone artifacts from a substantial settlement offers tangible links to this complex past. The film encourages a deeper appreciation for the nuanced legacy of the Norse in Britain, urging viewers to reconsider a history often oversimplified.
