THE FORGOTTEN BATTALION - RETURNING SOLDIERS AND THEIR STRUGGLES - FULL DOCUMENTARY

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary, "The Forgotten Battalion - Returning Soldiers and Their Struggles," offers a stark and necessary look at the profound sacrifices made by America's service members, extending far beyond the battlefield. Directed by Mark A. Smith, the film centers on the Second Battalion, Seventh Marine Regiment, detailing their harrowing 2008 deployment in Afghanistan. Facing immense challenges, including resource scarcity and intense combat with limited support, these Marines endured a tour of duty that tested their limits. However, the documentary powerfully argues that the fight for survival did not end upon their return home. It bravely confronts the alarming rates of suicide among these veterans, revealing a crisis that claims lives at a rate significantly higher than for other young veterans and the general populace. "The Forgotten Battalion" is a vital, albeit difficult, watch, urging viewers to acknowledge and address the enduring psychological toll of war on those who serve.
