This documentary, 'The Fishermen: A Journey Into The Mind Of A Killer,' offers a profound and unsettling exploration into the psyche of James Ryan O'Neill, a child murderer serving a life sentence in Tasmania. Retired detective Gordon Davie spearheads this three-year investigation, drawing parallels between their shared passion for fishing and hunting to build a unique rapport with O'Neill. The film delves into the circumstances surrounding O'Neill's crimes, committed after his arrival in Tasmania in 1975, and probes the potential connections to other unsolved disappearances and murders. O'Neill, described as softly spoken, eloquent, and well-educated, presents a complex enigma, challenging conventional perceptions of a killer. Davie's investigative approach illuminates a dark world, prompting viewers to confront the uncomfortable question: what truly defines a killer?
