THE FISHERMAN

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary, "The Fisherman," offers a profound and unsettling exploration into the psyche of James Ryan O'Neill, Tasmania's longest-serving prisoner for the murder of two young boys. Retired detective Gordon Davie's three-year investigation transcends a mere recounting of crimes; it delves into the complex relationship built through a shared love of the outdoors. O'Neill, described as softly spoken, eloquent, and educated, presents a chilling paradox to his heinous acts. The film courageously shines a light into a dark, often incomprehensible world, forcing viewers to confront the uncomfortable question: what does a killer truly look like? It is a testament to the power of in-depth, sensitive investigative filmmaking.
