THE FINCH THIEF

Cinemavixion Review

Carlo Luglio's "The Finch Thief" plunges into the sun-drenched yet morally ambiguous landscape of the Campania countryside. The film centers on Pasquale Cardinale, a man whose twilight years are overshadowed by alcohol and the siren call of video poker. Facing mounting debts, Pasquale concocts a desperate scheme: to orchestrate the theft of 200 pure white goldfinches, replacing them with common birds. However, as the synopsis hints, this illicit venture takes an unexpected turn, suggesting a narrative that explores the unintended consequences of desperation and greed. The film promises a character study interwoven with the rugged beauty of its setting, exploring themes of aging, vice, and the flawed pursuit of redemption. Luglio appears to craft a poignant, albeit potentially bleak, exploration of a man pushed to his limits.
