THE FALL OF EL CHAPO

Cinemavixion Review

Angus Macqueen and Guillermo Galdos deliver a gripping documentary with 'The Fall of El Chapo,' embarking on a perilous quest to track the elusive Joaquin Guzman. Known globally as 'El Chapo,' Guzman, the head of history's most powerful drug cartel, is presented with a dual persona: a folk hero to some, a ruthless kingpin to others. The film masterfully navigates this complex narrative, illustrating the stark contrast between his perceived revolutionary status and the brutal reality of over 80,000 murders in Mexico. The directors' journey, from the urban sprawl of Chicago to the forbidden terrains of the Mexican Golden Triangle, is enriched by Jackson Scott's evocative score. This quixotic exploration unearths fundamental truths about the 'war on drugs,' bringing viewers uncomfortably close to a figure shrouded in legend and violence.
