THE DEATH MARCH OF DE SOTO

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary challenges romanticized notions of Hernando de Soto's arrival in North America, presenting a starkly different narrative through archaeological findings. While historical accounts often laud the explorer's journey as a pivotal moment, the film delves into the devastating impact on indigenous populations. The excavation of lost Native American cultures alongside de Soto's trail, from Florida to the Mississippi, reveals a grim reality of conquest and destruction. The film compellingly contrasts the myth of exploration with the archaeological evidence, offering a crucial re-examination of this significant period in history. It serves as a powerful reminder of the human cost often obscured by grand historical narratives.
