THE DARING HUNT FOR THE ANCIENT LOST CITY OF GOLD

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary offers a fascinating, albeit fragmented, exploration of historical quests and civilizations. It delves into the enigmatic pursuit of a mythical city of gold by Percy Fawcett in the Amazon, contrasting his vanishing with Hiram Bingham's celebrated discovery of Machu Picchu, and questioning the latter's true identity and Bingham's motives. The narrative then shifts to the dramatic clash between the Aztec Eagle Warriors and Hernán Cortés, highlighting the cultural shock and the devastating impact of European diseases. While each segment presents intriguing historical accounts and poses compelling questions about discovery, fame, and conquest, the compilation feels less like a unified film and more like a collection of distinct historical vignettes. The lack of a central narrative thread or a singular focus leaves the viewer with a series of compelling, yet disconnected, historical snapshots.
