THE CURSED

Cinemavixion Review

Sean Ellis's "The Cursed" masterfully plunges viewers into a late nineteenth-century setting where the veneer of civilization is shattered by primal fear and ancient folklore. The film expertly weaves a tale of a brutal land baron whose transgressions unleash a terrifying curse upon his village, transforming a seemingly tranquil community into a landscape of dread and bloodshed. Boyd Holbrook and Kelly Reilly deliver compelling performances as they navigate the encroaching darkness, their characters caught between rational investigation and supernatural horror. With a chilling atmosphere, striking visuals, and a narrative that taps into deep-seated anxieties, "The Cursed" stands as a potent entry in the folk horror genre. Its critical reception, including a commendable 71% on Rotten Tomatoes, underscores its success in delivering a sophisticated and unsettling cinematic experience that lingers long after the credits roll.
