THE CONFEDERATE

Cinemavixion Review

Christopher Forbes' "The Confederate" plunges viewers into the tumultuous landscape of Georgia in 1864. The narrative centers on Willa Randall, a young woman driven to extreme measures to escape a forced marriage. Her audacious decision to disguise herself as a boy and enlist in the Confederate Cavalry forms the crux of this compelling drama. Jezibell Anat delivers a notable performance, embodying the grit and determination required for such a perilous undertaking. While the film may not boast widespread critical acclaim or box office dominance, its strength lies in its focused exploration of a young woman's struggle for autonomy amidst the chaos of war. Forbes directs with a steady hand, bringing to life a story that highlights themes of identity, courage, and the desperate pursuit of freedom in a restrictive era. "The Confederate" offers a poignant look at individual resilience against historical backdrop.
