THE COMING WAR ON CHINA

Cinemavixion Review

John Pilger's 2016 documentary, 'The Coming War on China,' is a stark and urgent examination of escalating geopolitical tensions. With the authority of an award-winning journalist, Pilger meticulously unpacks the often-unreported narrative of a potential conflict between the United States and China, two nuclear-armed superpowers. The film, drawing on extensive research and filmed across multiple Asian and Pacific front-lines, connects historical precedents to contemporary political maneuvering, including the strategic 'pivot to Asia.' Pilger challenges the mainstream media's portrayal, revealing a complex web of military build-ups and political rhetoric that could lead to catastrophic war. Despite the gravity of the subject, the documentary also highlights the less-known stories of resistance, offering a critical perspective that encourages viewers to look beyond the headlines and understand the profound implications of great power competition. Its critical reception, with an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, underscores its significance as a vital piece of political commentary.
