THE COLDEST KISS

Cinemavixion Review

In "The Coldest Kiss" (2014), director Michael Jason Allen crafts a period thriller set against the backdrop of 1938's societal pressures. The narrative centers on Mattie, a young woman trapped in an arranged marriage with the affluent and predatory Floyd. Her plight takes a turn when she finds solace and a path to freedom with Floyd's nephew, Thomas. Their escape, however, ignites Floyd's vengeful fury, setting the stage for a dangerous cat-and-mouse game. While the external data suggests a runtime of 91 minutes and a genre blend of Drama, Romance, and Thriller, the core of the story remains a tense pursuit. The film, noted for two wins and three nominations, explores themes of oppression, burgeoning independence, and the desperate measures one might take for survival. "The Coldest Kiss" offers a compelling look at a woman's fight against her circumstances, underscored by the menacing threat of her husband's retribution.
