THE BRUTAL MEDIEVAL BATTLE THAT NEARLY KILLED A KING

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary plunges viewers into the heart of medieval warfare, specifically the tumultuous Battle of Shrewsbury in 1403. Hosted by Dan Jones and Professor Michael Livingston, the narrative reconstructs the brutal clash between King Henry IV's royalists and the rebel forces led by Henry Hotspur. The program vividly details the stakes – the very crown of England – and the intense personal drama, exemplified by the future Henry V's near-fatal encounter with an arrow to the face. Exploring the tactical significance of the longbow, a weapon wielded by both factions, and even delving into the grim realities of medieval surgery, the film offers a comprehensive look at this pivotal moment in English history. It compellingly argues that Shrewsbury was not merely a battle, but a crucible that forged the destiny of a king.
