THE BRIDE IN THE BOX

Cinemavixion Review

Doug Bost's "The Bride in the Box" (2022) is a chilling exploration of childhood fears and familial discord. The film masterfully weaves a local ghost story into the fabric of a family vacation that is visibly fracturing under unspoken tensions. Young Acadia Bost delivers a compelling performance as a daughter increasingly captivated by a terrifying legend, a spell that seems to mirror the growing distance between her parents, portrayed by Carolyn Baeumler and Victor Verhaeghe. While the film's reception and accolades are not widely documented, its atmospheric tension and poignant portrayal of a child caught between supernatural dread and parental estrangement make it a noteworthy entry in the psychological horror genre. Bost crafts a narrative that is as much about the ghosts of relationships as it is about spectral entities, inviting audiences to ponder the unsettling parallels between the two.
