THE BRIBE OR THE BULLET

Cinemavixion Review

Brian McKenna's "The Bribe or the Bullet" (1996) offers a stark and unflinching look at the perilous state of Mexican politics. This documentary plunges viewers into a world where democratic ideals are constantly under siege by violence and intimidation. The assassination of a prominent candidate serves as a catalyst, revealing the brutal choices faced by those in power: succumb to corruption or confront mortal danger. Through what appears to be rigorous investigative journalism, compelling firsthand accounts, and the unveiling of shocking truths, McKenna constructs a powerful narrative of survival, fear, and the desperate struggle for genuine change in a landscape fraught with peril. It's a vital, if harrowing, examination of power dynamics in a volatile region.
