THE BOATMAN'S DAUGHTER - 船家女

Cinemavixion Review

This 1935 Mandarin Chinese film, 'The Boatman's Daughter' (船家女), offers a compelling morality tale set against the backdrop of Shanghai. The narrative centers on a young married woman from a boat-family whose life takes a turn as she becomes entangled with the city's affluent elite. Presented in black and white, the film explores themes of social class and personal choices within the vibrant, yet potentially corrupting, environment of Shanghai during that era.
