THE BLACK PIRATES
Cinemavixion Review
Allen H. Miner's "The Black Pirates" plunges viewers into a sun-drenched, albeit morally murky, adventure. Set in Central America, the narrative follows a band of ruthless pirates who descend upon a unsuspecting town, convinced that a legendary treasure lies buried beneath its soil. Their plans, however, are immediately complicated by the presence of a church built directly over their coveted loot. The film skillfully depicts the pirates' escalating desperation as they coerce the townsfolk into an excavation, only to unearth far more than mere gold. Anthony Dexter leads the charge with a performance befitting a swashbuckler, ably supported by Martha Roth and the iconic Lon Chaney Jr. While the plot may tread familiar pirate tropes, its engaging premise and the stark contrast between avarice and faith offer a compelling, if somewhat quaint, cinematic experience from 1954.
