THE BLACK MAGIC

Cinemavixion Review

Marc-Ivan O'Gorman's 'The Black Magic' plunges viewers into a chilling narrative that echoes the unsettling dread found in films like 'The Ninth Gate' and 'Hereditary'. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Bangkok, the story follows three American friends whose tropical vacation takes a sinister turn after a mysterious encounter with a local woman. Upon their return to the United States, they find themselves ensnared by a vengeful spirit, a premise that masterfully blends cultural mysticism with visceral paranormal horror. The film's strength lies in its atmospheric tension and the palpable sense of impending doom that grips the protagonists. While the IMDb rating suggests a mixed reception, the film's commitment to its eerie premise and its exploration of the consequences of disturbing ancient forces make it a compelling watch for fans of the genre, especially during the Halloween season.
