THE BIZARRE AND BRUTAL REMEDIES OF THE MEDIEVAL WORLD

Cinemavixion Review

Tony Robinson delves into the often grim, yet fascinating, medical practices of the medieval era in "The Bizarre And Brutal Remedies Of The Medieval World." Eschewing the notion of a modern doctor, the program highlights the reliance on local figures like the wise-woman and the barber surgeon, whose methods, while rudimentary, were the only recourse for many. The narrative paints a vivid picture of a time before anesthetics, where herbal remedies, aggressive surgical interventions, and peculiar concoctions were the norm. Beyond medicine, Robinson also illuminates other challenging occupations of the period, such as arming squires and cathedral builders, offering a comprehensive look at the labor and resilience that characterized medieval society. It's an insightful journey into a world where survival often depended on unconventional and sometimes startling approaches to health and daily life.
