THE BASKETBALL FIX

Cinemavixion Review

Felix E. Feist's "The Basketball Fix" offers a compelling look into the dark underbelly of collegiate sports, set against the backdrop of 1950s America. John Ireland delivers a nuanced performance as a sportswriter entangled in a web of organized crime and point-shaving, attempting to guide a promising young player, portrayed earnestly by Marshall Thompson, away from a path of corruption. The film masterfully explores themes of ambition, temptation, and the corrosive influence of greed, all within a tight 65-minute runtime. Vanessa Brown adds a touch of vulnerability as the player's girlfriend, caught in the crossfire of his moral descent. As a film noir, "The Basketball Fix" doesn't shy away from the grim consequences of compromised integrity, making it a thought-provoking watch for fans of classic dramas and sports-themed thrillers alike.
