THE ASSISTANTS

Cinemavixion Review

"The Assistants" offers a sharp, albeit niche, look into the cutthroat world of Hollywood, where ambition often breeds desperation. The narrative centers on Jack Ryder and his cohort of weary assistants, who ingeniously leverage a fictional script into a potential production deal. Chris Conner grounds the film with a relatable portrayal of striving ambition, while Joe Mantegna’s presence as the industry mogul adds a layer of seasoned gravitas. Director Steve Morris crafts a story that, while perhaps not reaching blockbuster status, effectively captures the industry's peculiar blend of cynicism and manufactured dreams. The film cleverly explores themes of aspiration and the often-absurd mechanics of filmmaking, making it a worthwhile watch for those intrigued by the behind-the-scenes machinations of the movie business.
