THE ASCENT

Cinemavixion Review

Thomas Murtagh's 'The Ascent' plunges viewers into a tense, 24-hour psychological battle within the confines of an interrogation room. The film masterfully pits veteran LAPD detective Henry Cardenas, portrayed with gritty determination, against the enigmatic Vince Marins. Marins' unsettling claim of non-humanity injects a layer of existential dread into the unfolding investigation, blurring the lines between reality and delusion. While the director's name was absent from the initial data, Murtagh's steady hand guides the narrative, expertly building suspense. The performances of Miguel Pérez and Stephen Buchanan are central to the film's success, creating a compelling dynamic that keeps the audience guessing. 'The Ascent' is a character-driven thriller that probes deep into the nature of truth and the darkness that can lie beneath the surface, offering a thought-provoking cinematic experience.
